Inflation: Prices Are Going Up

Prices are actually going up, despite the fact that the government tells us they are not. But one of the main reasons that prices have not gone up even faster is because we have exported a lot of that inflation to emerging economies. Check the inflation rates in other countries that peg their currency to the U.S. dollar that have big trading surpluses with the United States.

How to Measure Inflation

Peter Schiff : "If we used today's inflation measure in the 70s, there would've been no inflation." - in Twitter

Peter Schiff : Gold is predominantly a hedge against Inflation

Peter Schiff: Gold is predominantly a hedge against Inflation, or against debasement of fiat currencies. You have a choice. If you don’t want to buy an asset like stocks or real estate, if you just want to store your purchasing power so that you can buy assets in the future or consumer goods, are you going to hold dollars; are you going to hold euros; Swiss francs; or are you going to hold gold?
I think more and more people will choose gold when they look at the supply of these fiat currencies that are hitting the market or are going to hit the market. And they’ll look at the supply of gold, which is growing very slowly—a lot of the miners are having a lot of problems; production costs are rising. So you’re not getting a lot of new gold being mined and demand is growing all around the world. I think it’s a better store of value.
Meanwhile, the yield on gold is pretty much the same as on dollars or euros or yen or Swiss francs—the yield is zero. It used to be that if you owned gold, you were missing out on 5, 6, 7 percent. But you’re not missing out on anything now. There’s no opportunity cost for owning gold because you don’t get interest owning another currency. So you might as well own real money, as opposed to these fiat currencies. That’s going to drive demand. - in IndexUniverse

Peter Schiff : Americans should chose between saving and eating

Peter Schiff : the good news as the main stream media puts it is the personal spending is up , what we really luck in this country is savings , so the fact that we are spending money is not something that we should celebrate says Peter Schiff , especially that most of us are broke or have debt to pay , the reason we spent more money is that the savings rates dropped sharply , because incomes in the month of February only rose by three tens of one percent so the additional spending came because we reduced our savings rather than we increased our incomes , despite a real drop in income Americans spend more not less , Peter Schiff thinks that the reason Americans are spending more is because it cost them more to eat and drive their cars it's reflecting a rise in the cost of living Americans are spending money they rather not spend , they rather save more money ...unfortunately the decision is between saving and eating , they are choosing eating ....

Peter Schiff - it costs 50% more to make a dollar than it did 3 years ago

Peter Schiff - it costs 50% more to make a dollar than it did 3 years ago yet the FEd insists that there is no inflation

Peter Schiff : an Ironic story about Inflation , the Federal Reserve insist in saying that there is no inflation , yet there is a story today that the treasury is thinking about no longer printing One Dollar Bill , and the reason is because it is too expensive , because its cost is rising , they think that it may save us some money if we just make coins , One Dollar Coins which will last a lot longer and so they won't have to be reprinted , the bills that we use , are 70% cotton and 25% linen , cotton prices have gone up dramatically recently , according to this article the cost of printing dollar bill has increased by more than 50% since 2008 , you see the irony here , I mean the Federal Reserve says there is no Inflation yet the cost of printing money is gone up by 50% , for what reason ? well because of all the inflation , because they printing so much money they've driven the cost of the process and now it costs 50% more to make the bills than it cost three years ago despite the fact that the bills buy less ...a Dollar bill today cost 50% more to make than it did three years ago yet it has lower purchasing power in terms of what you could buy with it

Peter Schiff : Inflationary Nightmare Coming January 24, 2011

Peter Schiff Inflationary Nightmare Coming January 24, 2011

Peter Schiff : Inflation is already here and it is in the first thing you'd expect it to be which is the commodities , inflation is not because of the weather , politicians always want to blame inflation on the weather otr on greedy corporations ...etc.......Inflation "is the consequence of what the government has done to try to stimulate the economy,” he says, referring to quantitative easing and stimulus spending. Basically, the Fed has had to print money in order to pay for this country’s huge deficits, which in turn has pushed up the price of just about everything priced in dollars, which remains the world's reserve currency.

Peter Schiff : whats driving commodities is inflation

Peter Schiff on CNBC 12_29_10

Peter Schiff :...I do not think that's what's driving the market the ETFs are attracted by high returns , the ETFs are showing up because people want exposure to the commodities but they are not the dog they are the tail , what's driving commodities is inflation , it's governments around the world particularly the federal reserve creating too much money debasing the value of the dollar , you know as we speak the dollar is at an all time low against the swiss franc today it is at an all time record low against the Australian dollar , you need 30 dollars to buy an ounce of silver , you need 1400 dollars to but an ounce of gold ......etc...

Peter Schiff : The surge in Commodities is due to the Inflation not to the economy picking up

Peter Schiff : The new mission of the FED is creating more Inflation

Peter Schiff : "Its Scary How Clueless Bernanke Is"

Bernanke said that "Inflation is running at rates that too low ..." Peter Schiff does not agree ...Peter Schiff : "It's scary how clueless Bernanke is, first of all to say that inflation rate is too low...I mean look at what's going on now...look at what's happening with the commodity prices across the board ...every commodity is rallying , look at the corn prices that are probably up 60% in the last three months that's 20% above , look at the record high in the price of gold thirty or high in the price of silver ...look at what's happening at the value of our money , the dollar is at a record low against the Swiss franc a record low against the Singapore dollar , a record low against the Australian dollar , near record low against the Japanese Yen , it is falling against , it is falling against every currency . it's been at lowest against the Chinese Renminbi I think in fiften twenty years...what is that mean ? if our money is losing value that is Inflation....as money loses value prices are going to rise cause you need more diminished dollars to buy goods and services ... may be the Government indexes are not showing double digit Inflation...." Schiff says,.." the CPI is a very manipulated index ....a lot of destortions....etc...

"What Ben Bernanke is saying to Congress is ‘run up the deficits because I'm going to monetize it for you,'" Schiff says. "He is enabling the government to get bigger, which is going to make employment worse, not better. He's throwing gasoline on a fire."

Peter Schiff : Buy more Gold The FED is Creating Inflation

Peter Schiff : You ain't seen nothing yet and I do not have to explain it I'll let Bernanke explain it the FED has now laid its monetary cards on the table The FED has claimed that its new mandate is creating inflation , you know the old mandate was to create price stability but the FED now views stable prices as a problem that it is going to cure by creating inflation , The FED has a Bis-mo record of failure but unfortunately this is one time that it is going to succeed it is going to create a lot of inflation that's why people are buying gold , that's why it is setting record high , that's why silver has made a thirty year high today and these metal prices are going to keep going higher and higher as more and more people figure out that the FED is going to rob them blind but you know the FED made the mistake by letting the cat out of the bag by telling us that it is going to rob us , if you do not want to be robbed buy gold ...

The Schiff Report Default Vs. Inflation

Peter Schiff explains the similarities and differences between the Greece economy and that of the United State of America :"Greece borrowed a lot of money , the Greek government running large deficit mainly because the Greek politicians wanted to stay in office and so they promised very lavish benefits in terms of pay packages and pensions to government workers in Greece , they did not want to raise taxes to pay for those benefits so they borrowed the money and everything was fine as long as there were willing lenders they were able to accumulate more and more debt which is of course is always a problem with the credit bubble we experienced that here in the real estate market , people were able to borrow money until the lenders discovered that they won't be paid back and they did not want to lend anymore well the same thing is happening in Greece now Greece has a situation that every nation will have when they borrow a lot of money , they can either cut back on government spending or raise taxes or default , more or a combination through restructuring , and of course Greek politicians they do not want to cut the benefits and there is rioting in the streets people are protesting the benefits cuts they do not want to raise taxes substantially because that also is not going to play out well in the polls , they do not want to default but the problem as far as some economists can see , well Gee if they can only print money , if they only were back in the old good days when they had the Drachma they had no problems they can simply print Drachma , well first of all if they were still using Drachma they were not probably could not to borrow so much money interest rates would not stay that low for so long because creditors would have been worried about them printing Drachmas , they figured that there was more discipline with respect to the Euro "...etc...

HOW GOVERNMENT-CREATED INFLATION BECAME POLICY - By Peter Schiff

Peter Schiff
by Peter Schiff :

The process of dumbing people down so they’ll buy official figures showing inflation “under control” at levels of 1 to 2 percent or so (when it is actually more like 8 to 9 percent) is actually a fairly recent development. Back in the early 1970s, the market basket of consumer prices tracked by the CPI, although not a perfect indicator, was at least relied on by the government itself as a guide. We were still on the gold standard, meaning the money supply had to be managed conservatively. When inflation then
reached 4 percent, it was considered a serious enough problem to warrant wage and price controls, a misguided policy to be sure, but at least a recognition that a problem existed.Today real inflation is much higher and we’re told it’s virtually nonexistent.
The Ford administration was the first to face real problems with government-created inflation, and its strategy, inspired by a young Alan Greenspan serving then as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors, was to blame the inflation problem on the public. Remember the WIN buttons, standing for “Whip Inflation Now”? As though individual businesspersons could beat inflation by simply refraining from raising prices.
